Botox

Botox is a substance that acts as a chemical neuro-modifier of muscles and is the best treatment for wrinkles and improving communication with those around us. Treatment with Botox gives natural results, without freezing the expression. It is a treatment safe, tested over 20 years, painless, that gives accurate results and that we highly recommend.

How does Botox work?

It reduces the intensity of contraction of specific muscles by treating dynamic wrinkles.
Treatment consists in a number of infusions that do not hurt. The muscles in which the appropriate substance is injected are brought into the following anatomical shapes and these are the eye muscle sphincter which is located in front of and around the eye and the muscle spasms for the treatment of wrinkles in the area of the crow’s foot and in the mesophron, between the eyebrows.

F, E, D, are parts of the eye muscle sphincter (it is the most circulating eye muscle that extends around the orbit to each eye, and which is responsible for closing the eye). B is the complex of spreaders, C is the pyramidal muscle, and A is the frontal muscle. The fine-grained injection should be given under the skin and into the muscle.
The results of infusions begin to appear after 3-4 days. The results generally last usually from 4-6 months after which the injections should be repeated. So a woman or a man usually has to make these injections once or twice a year.

An essential element of any surgical procedure, especially cosmetic surgery, is providing the patient with sufficient time for information.

What is Dysport?

Dysport has the same readings as Botox. This means that Botox is used for the same purposes and contains the same substance (botulinum type A) which is a purified protein by the same mechanism of action. The effect appears to be started slightly earlier than with Botox. Dysport works by relaxing specific facial muscles such as the clamp, eye muscle, or front muscle to reduce and smooth or eliminate wrinkles. Dysport is supported by clinical experience over 10 years. Dysport was developed in the UK in the early 1990s to treat a number of ophthalmological and neurological conditions that reflect eye function. Since then, having an increased understanding of the uses of Dysport, many thousands of treatments have been made in a safe and effective way for a variety of conditions that range from wrinkles between the eyebrows to the cases of people who have problems with excessive sweat, their armpits or their hands.

Is some preparation done before injection?

Dr. Nikolaos Trakos discusses with the patient before the treatment. He understands his needs, explains what is possible and what the patient should expect, and builds the trust he needs in the best possible human and scientific way.

What is the procedure for applying Botox?

The treatment lasts a few minutes and is performed in the clinic and is not accompanied by pain. The injection is done carefully and painlessly thanks to the long experience of Dr. Nikolaos Trakos. Although in the majority of cases it is not necessary, it is possible to apply a local anesthetic cream 30 minutes before the injection.

Do you give any instructions after applying Botox?

We give written and oral instructions on what to look out for after applying Botox.

Some of them are the following:
– Avoid rubbing the areas that were infused
– Avoid lying down for 3-4 hours after infusion
– Avoid hot showers, warm air in the hair, sauna, steam bath for the next few hours
– Avoid strenuous physical exercise for 24 hours
– Avoid drinking alcohol for one day
– Exercise of healed muscles

When do the first results of treatment begin to appear and how long does it last?

The first results start to show after 3-4 days. For the first few days the patient thinks that there is no result. After a few days it begins gradually and the result is visible and judged after 15 days. The treatment effect lasts depending on the patient for 4-6 months. After the 3rd month, the effect of Botox starts to decrease to reach pre-treatment levels after 4-6 months.

Why choose Dr. Trakos?

Dr. Trakos’ contribution to the field of anterior segment and cataract surgery, as well as to the treatment of vision problems, has changed the lives of many people by improving their sight and quality of life.

Which dose of Botox is the best?

The dosage of Botox varies depending on the patient and is therefore fully personalized. The muscles in each patient are different. Men have stronger muscles than women, but a woman can have more intense muscles in the mesophryon than another woman.
Thus, each patient receives a different dose according to the needs of his muscles and the result is reviewed after two weeks to assess the response. If necessary, re-injection, touch-up is performed.

Why should I trust an Ophthalmic Surgeon specialized in Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery like Dr. Nikolaos Trakos?

Botox was discovered by an Ophthalmologist named Alan Scott during his PhD thesis in 1972 in an attempt to treat strabismus. So he found that by injecting Botox into muscle that had been highly contracted, he could relax them and treat strabismus. Another Ophthalmologist, Jean Carruthers observed that, using Botox to treat so-called “tics” of the eyes, excessive blinking – the so-called blepharospasm – the wrinkles in the area around the eyes were diminishing. After this discovery by Ophthalmologists, a revolution took place in the treatment of wrinkles and the renewal of the eye-face area. A new era had begun. In 1969, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery was founded, so that the diseases of the eye and face area can be treated with surgical and minimally invasive methods by specialized ophthalmologists. Botox is applied to the eyelids that are components of the eye, especially the eye sphincter muscle and adjacent muscles. Dr. Nikolaos Trakos has specialized in Eye Surgery and Ophthalmic Plastic Aesthetics & Reconstructive Surgery in centers such as Moorfields Eye Hospital, Mayo Clinic and UCLA in Los Angeles. He has authored books such as Aesthetic Oculofacial Rejuvenation and translated Work of Systematic Eyelid Surgery, and teaches at Courses and Labs around the world, such as the Fyodorov Eye Institute in Moscow and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He applies the most modern techniques in the most responsible scientific way, utilizing the knowledge from his clinical and academic experience as Professor of Ophthalmology.
